Technology Readiness Level (TRL) System

Our technical development and innovation philosophy
Technology Readiness Level (TRL) System

The Technology Readiness Level (TRL) System is a cross-industry standard of understanding technical development, which the Global Marine Group have adopted.

TRL has its roots in NASA, where it was developed as a method for measuring the maturity of space exploration technology, and it has since been co-opted into other industries – for example, by the EU Research Council and the European Space Agency.

The Technology Readiness Assessment (TRA) – as shown in the graph opposite – allows us to determine the maturity of our technologies against a uniform framework, examining the program concepts, technology requirements, and technology capabilities.

We track how our technology ranks against the TRA, offering valuable insight into how Global Marine Group innovations can and is being implements on a variety of projects.
